Trinity Photography Studio

Hey everyone!

Sorry, I've been so quiet but I've been incredibly busy lately. Shortly after my last post I graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Photography from Teeside University and shortly after that I found out that a studio in Gateshead was losing it's owner. I decided to take over the studio so I've had a bit of a mad rush to finish my business plan and get everything sorted.

Short story; I managed to get the money to take over the studio in time and last week I had my Launch Party, which went really well and now my business and the studio is up and running! I've renamed it Trinity Photography Studio, as I wanted something new that wasn't related to my own photography and tied in with the local area.

I'm still feeling a little rushed as I've got so much I did to do but I've started getting some paid clients and I'm looking forward to seeing where this takes me. I'll try to post more regularly every Wednesday so please keep your eyes peeled for more posts coming soon.

Burns Unit Catwalk

Here are some of my favourite photos from the BURNS UNIT Catwalk hosted by The Next Big Thing at Tiger Tiger in Newcastle. This was a fantastic catwalk organised by one of my fellow students at Newcastle College and featured a host of local models and a range of clothing provided by local designers to raise money for the Burns Unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle.

I really enjoyed the event, especially since I got to meet some fantastic models and see them model some gorgeous outfits and I'm really proud to support such a great cause. If you'd like to see more of my photos from the event please check them out at www.facebook.com/NJDunnPhotography and let me know what you think.

Thanks.

My New Logo

I'm really pleased to announce that I've finally got a new logo, that's been designed by Carl from Cargo Creative and I'm really pleased with it. I've been after a new logo for years but I've never been completely happy with my designs.

So when I shot some of Cargo Creative's printed material for their website, I asked if they would mind designing a logo for me. I send Carl some of my ideas and he came back with this for me and honestly I couldn't be more happy with it. It's simple but dramatic and conveys what I do really effectively and I think it links to my style of work. I'm also really happy that it works so well as a watermark and I can also change it to different colours to match the colours in my image.

But what do you guys think? Do you like?

Newcastle Film + Comic Con- May 2017

Last Saturday, I went to the Film & Comic Con at The Metro Radio Arena for a few hours. I hadn't been to a convention for several months and I'd just ordered some new business cards so I was really looking forward to meeting some awesome cosplayers, giving out some cards and taking some great photos. Unfortunately, I had to leave early to visit a friend in hospital but I really enjoyed my time at the convention and thought I'd post some of my favourite photos here.

As usual, I used a Nikon D610 with an 18-85mm lens to take these photo and used a SB-700 speed light, synced with a TTL cable and fitted with a small softbox to light the images as the arena was quite dark.

I really enjoyed the event and I am really pleased with the photos. I've only posted a few of my favourites here but there are lots more on my Facebook page so please go check them out at; www.facebook.com/NJDunnPhotography.

This was my first convention of the year but I hope to attend a few more and kickstart my cosplay photography again, which I have been neglecting recently. But please check out my photos and let me know what you think.

LED Night Shoot

Last week, I did a night shoot with Sally, who's a professional dancer and fire performer, who wanted some photos with her new LED whip on location at night.

We agreed to a night shoot by the Sage in Gateshead with Newcastle in the background and my friend Mark agreed to help me. Admittedly, I was really nervous about the shoot because I'd had several cancellations and letdowns recently and hadn't shot anything in quite a while. But I managed to settle my nerves and knuckle down and get on with it. Admittedly it might have been better to shoot earlier so we would've had a lighter setting but I am still very pleased with the results of the shoot.

I shot these with a D610 camera with a 18-85mm lens on a tripod and a SB-700 speed-light fitted with a small softbox and synced with a TTL cable. I set the camera to correctly expose the background with a moderate f-spot and slightly long shutter speed to keep the ISO relatively low and spare the quality of the image. I'd really like to do another shoot with Sally to maybe try some dancing shots or long-exposure performing images or maybe try another location to get some show off the colour of the whip or get some reflections from the coloured light.

Hopefully, I will get the chance sometime.

Charlotte's Fire Shoot

Well I've finally finished my Dissertation and almost finished my Final Project, so I thought I'd post some of my favourite photos from my fire shoot with Fleur Noire in Durham.

These are a little overdue as the shoot was quite a while ago but I got caught up with all my college work and forgot to post them. It was a really interesting shoot, as I'd never tried fire photography before and found it quite challenging, although I wish we'd shot in a more urban environment and that I brought some larger flash lights to light Fleur.

That being said I'm really pleased with the results and really enjoyed trying something new like this and would really like to do another fire shoot to try and improve.

Maygan + Gemma

I haven't posted in quite a while so I thought I'd share some photos from my studio shoot with the lovely Maygan and Gemma.

This was quite a last minute shoot but it was really fun and I really enjoyed just being able to relax and enjoy a shoot in the studio that resulted in some great photos of these two gorgeous ladies.

First, we shot two outfits on a white background with a single large beauty dish, as the main light, and a large softbox, as the fill light, and then I got some photos of Maygan against a painted pink board which are my personal favourites from the shoot.

I haven't been shooting much in a while since I've been doing my dissertation so I really enjoyed doing this shoot and need to plan some more like it, hopefully with Maygan and Gemma again.

Wish me luck.

Roller Derby Siobhan

I've realised I've been neglecting my blog again so thought I'd post some of my favourite final images from my first shoot of 2017 with the gorgeous Siobhan Hatch in her Roller Derby outfit in Dynamix Skate Park.

This shoot came about when Siobhan asked me to shoot her in her Roller Derby gear for an article in GAINS magazine about her love of Roller Derby and recovery from Gullain-Barre syndrome in 2015.

I really enjoyed this shoot as had such an interesting model and location and it was quite a challenge to light the location and create a series of images with a different feel to them than my previous Roller Skates shoot with Mademoiselle Boo.  My friend Georgina assisted me and I used a D610 with a 18-85mm lens with a studio light equipped with a beauty dish and portable battery pack to light Siobhan. But because the location was quite big and dark I had to use a tripod and increase the shutter speed to lighten the background.

I loved working with Siobhan, who was a great sport since her outfit was quite revealing and the skate park was very cold and I think we got some great photos from the shoot and it's great to have some more of my work published.

But what do you guys think? Please comment and let me know.

NEUK Cosplay Calendar 2017

I've just got my copy of NEUK's 2017 Cosplay Calendar and I'm very excited as 3 of my images are featured in the calendar; Brogan as Rey from Star Wars is May, Louise as Rogue from X-Men is July and Ashleigh as Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad as November.

I've had some of my photos featured in the last 2 calendars but I'm really proud of these 3 as I think the quality of my work has really improved and I really hope I get the chance to work on the next issue so I can try to improve my work even more.
