Last week, I did a night shoot with Sally, who's a professional dancer and fire performer, who wanted some photos with her new LED whip on location at night.
We agreed to a night shoot by the Sage in Gateshead with Newcastle in the background and my friend Mark agreed to help me. Admittedly, I was really nervous about the shoot because I'd had several cancellations and letdowns recently and hadn't shot anything in quite a while. But I managed to settle my nerves and knuckle down and get on with it. Admittedly it might have been better to shoot earlier so we would've had a lighter setting but I am still very pleased with the results of the shoot.
I shot these with a D610 camera with a 18-85mm lens on a tripod and a SB-700 speed-light fitted with a small softbox and synced with a TTL cable. I set the camera to correctly expose the background with a moderate f-spot and slightly long shutter speed to keep the ISO relatively low and spare the quality of the image. I'd really like to do another shoot with Sally to maybe try some dancing shots or long-exposure performing images or maybe try another location to get some show off the colour of the whip or get some reflections from the coloured light.
Hopefully, I will get the chance sometime.
