Since we are under lockdown and I've been catching up on my editing, I thought I would try to update my blog and post some of my new work. I didn't plan to stop posting last year but with everything going on I feel out of the habit.
Since I stopped posting I decided to close my studio in Gateshead and I haven't been shooting as much as I used to. I was hoping to get back into shooting portraits this year but due to the Coronavirus pandemic, I have had to postpone all my plans indefinitely. I'm still planning shoots and ideas but I haven't been able to set any dates yet.
So while we are all waiting for this pandemic to blow over, I thought I'd start by posting some photos from one of my favourites shoots of 2019.
Rebecca was quite a new model that I started talking to online. We agreed to work together and decided to shoot a casual urban fashion shoot around Newcastle. On the day it was very overcast and cloudy so I decided to shoot with my 50mm lens and natural light and because Rebecca was working dark colours I set my camera to shoot in monochrome.
We met up in Old Eldon Square and then walked along Grainger Street to Central Station. The first set of images were taken with Rebecca leaning against a glass window in the square, so I could catch her shadow and the building reflections behind her. We then moved to the other side of the square to shoot against the black railings and pale buildings, which looked great in the background with a narrow depth of field. We got a few more shots while we walked to Central Station and around The Bigg Market, I particuarly liked the shot of Rebecca in the middle of a street. We finished with a few shots inside the foyer of Central Station with Rebecca posing against the shutters of a coffee kiosk. Then we went for a coffee and a chat. So far we haven't planned another shoot but hopefully we will be able to work something out one day.
All in all, I really enjoyed this shoot and I'm really pleased with the results. As much as I love using flash lighting and colour gels, sometimes all you need is a good model, a 50mm lens and a cloudy sky.
I'll try to keep this blog updated at least once a week from now on and if your interested you can find the rest of the images from this shoot here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/NJDunnPhotography/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1753113508123088
Thanks for reading!
